Land clearing and forestry mulching for the steep kettle slopes around Nagawicka Lake and wooded lots from Hartland to Pewaukee.
Tell us about your Delafield property — we’ll get right back to you.
Land clearing in Delafield starts with ground the glaciers shaped. Nagawicka Lake formed within the Kettle Moraine, a belt of steep-sided ridges and conical hills. It is a kettle lake, left when a buried block of glacier ice melted, and it reaches 90 feet deep. The Bark River feeds and drains it, and sandy outwash surrounds nearly all of its shore. Lapham Peak sits one mile south of Interstate 94 near Delafield. At 1,233 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in Waukesha County. In the woods on these slopes, buckthorn fills in under the oaks and bush honeysuckle takes the forest edges. Buckthorn shade gets dense enough to stop tree seedlings.
Forestry mulching handles most of this ground in one pass. A purpose-built mulcher grinds brush, saplings and small to mid trees where they stand. The mulch stays on the ground as cover, and larger trees get cut and cleared first. See how forestry mulching works on a steep kettle slope. We work the City and the Town of Delafield. From there we go around Nagawicka Lake to Nashotah and up the Bark River to Hartland. We also cover the west half of Pewaukee Lake and the Nemahbin lakes downstream. The rest of the menu is stump grinding, brush clearing, lot clearing and buckthorn removal. Bush hogging keeps fields and pastures open, and rough grading follows once the wood is off.
You might own a lot on Nagawicka Lake where buckthorn has taken over the bank. You might be building in the Town of Delafield, on a wooded lot that needs opening to the stakes. Or you keep acreage out toward Lapham Peak, and your trails and fence lines have closed in. Each job starts the same way. We come out, look at what is standing with you, and price the work off that. The estimate is free and happens on site, and our price-match guarantee backs the number. We do the same work on lake lots around Oconomowoc.

Waukesha County Which rulebook covers your land depends on the address. The Town of Delafield takes in the west half of Pewaukee Lake, and Waukesha County runs shoreland zoning there. Its vegetation removal permit covers cutting generally within 1,000 feet of a lake or 300 feet of a stream. The application needs a cutting plan and a plat of survey or site plan. The county issues it in about two weeks once the application is complete. Nagawicka Lake lies in the City of Delafield and the Village of Nashotah. Those two and the Villages of Hartland and Chenequa run their own zoning. Check with the county or your city or village hall before we start. The DNR lists shoreline disturbance and stormwater among the lake's major issues. Steep slopes of sandy soil run close to the water, so we leave the mulch on them as ground cover. Oak wilt risk peaks from April through July, so oak cutting waits for August through March. Buckthorn invades riverbank woods and oak woods, so we plan buckthorn removal along the Bark River too.
