Up north in the Kettle Moraine, the ground around Lake Beulah and Potter Lake is hilly and wooded with clay-loam soil on the higher land, so selective mulching protects slopes and root systems better than blanket clearing, and any shoreline work brings county and DNR shoreland rules. The lower tracts hold softer marl soil and wet spots, which we work in firmer, drier conditions to avoid rutting. South and west, the level-to-rolling farm ground clears and grades easily, but neglected fields and fence lines fill in fast and need reclaiming.
