Regular Mowing for Properties Big and Small

Lawn mowing keeps the grass on your property cut, even and under control through the growing season. We mow around Whitewater, Lake Geneva and Elkhorn, and across southern Wisconsin. Large properties come first. That means acreage, rural home sites, the open ground around farm buildings, and commercial grounds with a lot of turf. Those are the jobs our equipment is built for. Smaller home lawns are welcome too. If you would rather have the grass handled by the same company that clears land, we will put you on the schedule. Mowing joins the land work we already do, so a lot we clear can stay cut afterward. You tell us how often you want it mowed. We show up and mow it.

We match the mower to the ground. Wide open acreage gets a machine that covers a lot of grass in one pass. A home lawn with trees, beds and a fence line gets a smaller mower that can work around them. Most properties go on a set schedule through the season, so the grass never gets ahead of you. A one-time cut is fine too, for a vacant lot or a lawn that got away from you. Grass that is taller than a lawn mower should handle gets the rotary cutter instead. We bush hog it down first, and after that it can go onto a regular mowing schedule. Either way, you get an even cut and a property that looks cared for.

Grass here follows the Wisconsin seasons. UW Extension notes that cool-season lawn grasses slow down in warm, dry summer weather and grow actively again in the fall. A lawn may need mowing twice a week in spring and only every two weeks in a hot, dry summer. We set the schedule to the growth and keep mowing in the fall until the grass goes dormant. In the City of Whitewater, grass may not exceed 7 inches in height under section 7.22 of the city code. A vacant lot or a second home can pass that line fast when nobody is mowing it. Every job starts with a free on-site estimate. We look at the property with you, agree on the areas and the schedule, and give you a firm, price-matched number.

What to Look for in a Lawn Mowing Company

Equipment that fits the property

A company mowing acreage should run a machine that covers ground, and still have a smaller mower for the tight spots around a house. Ask what they will bring to your property and why.

They know when a lawn mower is the wrong tool

Grass that has gone a season without a cut can be past a mower. Look for a company that can bush hog it down first and then keep it mowed, so you are not hiring twice.

A clean, even cut

The grass should be cut at one height across the whole property, with the edges along fences, drives and tree lines cut as cleanly as the open ground in the middle.

A schedule that holds

Regular mowing only works if the mower shows up. Ask how the company sets the schedule, what happens in a wet week, and how you reach them when a date needs to move.

Free, price-matched estimates

You should have a firm price before the first cut, given on site after someone has seen the property. Our estimates are free, and our price-match guarantee stands behind the number we give you.

FAQ

Lawn Mowing — Common Questions

Questions about lawn mowing in Whitewater or across southern Wisconsin? Here are the ones we hear most — and we’re glad to talk through yours.

Call 262-249-6360

What size properties do you mow?
All sizes. Larger properties come first, such as acreage, rural home sites and commercial grounds, because that is where our equipment does the most good. We also mow smaller home lawns. Tell us what you have and we will fit it into the schedule.
How often will you mow?
That depends on how fast the grass grows. UW Extension's advice is to mow when the grass needs it rather than on a fixed calendar: a lawn may need cutting twice a week in spring and only every two weeks in a hot, dry summer. Most of our properties sit on a weekly or every-other-week schedule, and we adjust it as the season changes. A one-time cut is available too.
What is the difference between lawn mowing and bush hogging?
Lawn mowing is the regular cut of grass kept at lawn height. Bush hogging uses a heavy rotary cutter on tall grass, weeds and light brush that a lawn mower cannot handle. If your grass is knee high or more, we bush hog it first and then put it on a mowing schedule.
How tall is too tall before you need to call?
Sooner than most people think. In the City of Whitewater, grass may not exceed 7 inches in height under section 7.22 of the city code, and other towns set their own limits. Check your municipality's rule. If the grass is already far past it, the first visit may be a rough cut rather than a lawn mow.
How much does lawn mowing cost?
It depends on the size of the area, how open or cluttered it is, and how often you want it mowed. Acreage is priced differently from a small lawn. Our Wisconsin lawn mowing cost guide shows the published ranges per visit and per acre. We give you a firm number after a free on-site estimate, and our price-match guarantee backs it.
Do you mow around trees, ponds and buildings?
Yes. We mow up to tree lines, around outbuildings and along drives and fence lines, and we keep a safe margin at pond edges and steep banks. If part of the property is too rough or too wet for a mower, we tell you at the estimate and sort out what to do with that section.
Where do you mow, and can you clear the overgrown parts too?
We mow in Walworth, Jefferson, Waukesha, Rock, Dane, Racine, Kenosha and Washington Counties, the same area we clear land in. If part of the property has gone to brush or saplings, our brush clearing work can take that back as well. Call 262-249-6360 for a free on-site estimate.
