Land clearing and forestry mulching for Rochester farm and wooded land, from the Fox River to the former town's fields.

Land clearing in Rochester means working a village that took in a whole town's farm and wooded land. On November 4, 2008, the village voted to consolidate with the Town of Rochester. Today it covers 17.48 square miles of land, with the Fox River running through it. The first settlers, five farming families from Rochester, Vermont, found nothing but dense virgin forest and wild prairie. Left alone, that ground heads back to brush. Field edges and fence lines fill in with saplings, and fence line and trail clearing opens them back up. Where buckthorn moves into a woodlot, the Wisconsin DNR says its dense shade stops tree seedlings from coming back. Bush honeysuckle moves into forest edges and open woods too.
Forestry mulching handles most of that regrowth in one pass. Our purpose-built mulcher grinds brush, saplings and small to mid trees where they stand. Larger trees get cut and cleared first, and the mulch stays on the ground as cover. See forestry mulching on Rochester brush and saplings. We work across the village, from the Fox River to the fields and woodlots of the former town. Around it, we work in Waterford, Burlington, Kansasville, Yorkville, Raymond and Lyons. The rest of the menu is stump grinding, brush clearing, lot clearing and buckthorn removal. Bush hogging keeps fields and pasture open, and rough grading follows once the wood is off.
You might farm ground in the former town where a back field and its fence lines have gone to brush. You might hold a wooded lot and need it opened before a build. Or your land runs down to the Fox, and buckthorn has filled the thicket along the bank. Each of those starts with a free on-site estimate. We come out, look at what is standing with you, and talk through what stays and what goes. The price comes from that visit, and our price-match guarantee backs it. Near the river or a wetland, we check the village rules with you before any cutting starts. For ground closer to Waterford, see land clearing around Waterford.

Racine County Near water, Rochester's zoning comes from the village. Racine County zoning does not extend to cities or villages, so the county's shoreland rules stop at the village line. The village has its own Chapter 36 for shoreland-wetland and shoreland zoning districts. In its shoreland district, the cutting of shoreland vegetation has to comply with that chapter. The chapter makes you responsible for compliance on your land. The village's zoning administrator answers questions on setbacks and floodplain requirements. Check with the Village of Rochester before clearing near the Fox River, a pond or a wetland. This stretch of the Fox is impounded by two dams, the Waterford Dam and the Rochester Dam. Near the river, we keep the mulcher on firm ground and leave the mulch down as cover. The village's erosion control chapter can cover land disturbing work on 4,000 square feet or more. We check it before rough grading a bigger area. Oak wilt spreads most easily from April through July, so we cut oaks outside those months. Wisconsin classes common buckthorn as Restricted, and buckthorn removal in Rochester woodlots takes it down low with the mulcher.
