Land clearing and forestry mulching for wooded Kettle Moraine lots, hillside acreage, farm edges and lake lots on Pike Lake.

Land clearing in Hartford starts with ground the glaciers left behind. The city sits in southwestern Washington County, just west of the Kettle Moraine at Pike Lake. A piece of it crosses the line into Dodge County. The Rubicon River flows through Pike Lake and through the middle of Hartford. Out here the ground runs to steep-sided ridges and cone-shaped hills of sand and loose stone. Kettle lakes and wet low spots sit in the hollows between them. Powder Hill, above Pike Lake, is the second-highest point in southeastern Wisconsin. On the wooded parts, buckthorn and bush honeysuckle crowd into the oak understory. A woodlot closes in fast once nobody cuts it.
Forestry mulching handles most of this ground. A purpose-built mulcher grinds brush, saplings and small to mid trees where they stand. The chips stay on the ground as cover. Larger trees get cut and cleared first. See how the mulcher works a wooded hillside lot. We also do brush clearing, lot clearing, stump grinding and buckthorn removal. Bush hogging keeps fields and pastures open, and rough grading follows once the wood is off. That work runs south into the Town of Erin, around Holy Hill and Glacier Hills County Park. It runs east to Pike Lake and Slinger, and southeast into Richfield at Hubertus, Friess Lake and Lake Five.
Calls here follow a few patterns. A family on a hillside acre in Erin or Richfield watches buckthorn take the slope below the house. A builder holds a wooded lot in town and needs it opened to the stakes. A hobby farm out toward St. Lawrence or Allenton has a fence line closing in on the pasture. All three start the same way. We come out, look at what is standing with you, and price the job off that. The estimate is free and it happens on site, and a price-match guarantee backs the number. The same goes for the lake lot clearing we handle down at Oconomowoc.

Washington County Which rulebook covers your land depends on the address. Washington County's shoreland ordinance covers only the unincorporated towns. That takes in the Towns of Erin, Hartford, Polk and Addison. Inside the City of Hartford or the Villages of Richfield and Slinger, the municipality runs its own zoning. On county ground, shoreland reaches 1,000 feet back from a lake and 300 feet from a river or stream. In the strip along the water, cutting is held to an access and viewing corridor. That corridor is 10 feet wide, or up to 35 percent of your frontage, whichever is greater. Grading in the shoreland area over 450 square feet needs a county zoning permit. Our guide to which jobs need a permit before the machines roll covers the rest. Off the water, the moraine is loose sand and stone on steep pitches. We mulch and leave the chips as cover to hold the slope. In the oak woods we plan a second pass on the buckthorn. Oak wilt spreads through fresh cuts from April through July, so oak work waits for the other eight months.
